West Hampton Baptist Church deaf ministry has actively been serving the Hampton Roads area since the early 70s. It is our prayer and plan that God will continue to use this church for teaching, training and reaching the deaf for Christ until the Lord’s return.

Rev Eugene Hughes was called as the first deaf pastor in 1989 and led the deaf church through 1998 when he retired. I was called to become the second pastor to the deaf at WHBC and have been blessed to be a part of many wonderful experiences since that time. Those experiences have included many who have made decisions to follow Christ, matured in the Lord and developed talents in music, teaching and ministering to others.

I have now served for almost 14 years as Pastor to the Deaf and feel it is time for a new pastor for the deaf ministry to continue this work. A new pastor provides an opportunity to a renewed sense of commitment and enthusiasm for those involved in the ministry. These past years have been a wonderful experience and been a blessing to me and hopefully those who have served alongside me.

The deaf council working with me asked the WHBC Personnel committee to initiate a search for a new pastor for the deaf. They reviewed potential candidates and have selected Rev. Niel Augustine as the candidate for this position. Brother Niel will come to WHBC for a pot luck dinner with the deaf for a meet and greet @ 5pm on January 21st. Niel will also preach to the entire church at the 10:30am worship service on Sunday January 22nd followed by a church wide lunch. All deaf and those interested in this ministry are invited to come and join us in this process.

After the lunch on Sunday, the deaf congregation members of WHBC will meet and vote on a call to Niel to serve as the 3rd Pastor to the Deaf @ WHBC. The hearing church will then vote at the Sunday night business meeting after hearing the vote of the deaf membership.

I will continue to serve as pastor until the new pastor is selected and located in the area ready to serve. Please pray for the personnel committee and deaf church as they seek God’s selection of the new pastor.
